In 2014, Dr. Laverne Morrow Carter and 12 dedicated community members were galvanized to establish N2Health upon personal experiences and heartfelt conversations about inequitable healthcare access in the Northern Neck region of Virginia. In this remote community, many residents lack access to lifesaving care. Therefore, Dr. Carter leveraged her expertise as an academic change maker while centering the voices of Northern Neck community members to make rural health equity a dream within reach.

N2Health has replicated this model of working hand-in-hand with passionate community members and strong academic partners to work toward our mission of 1) reducing rural health disparity risk factors with a strong emphasis on mental health and chronic conditions; 2) improving health literacy; and 3) expanding rural access to quality health services. With a talented program team, engaged Board of Directors, and a dedicated Executive Director, N2Health will continue to strive to be a national leader in rural health research and program implementation.
